'I went looking for mushrooms in the woods but found something terrifying'

A Brit who went in search of wild mushrooms in the woods was left baffled after making a creepy discovery amongst the trees.

His bid to find the extra ingredient for his tea was cut short after stumbling upon an cars - something he captured in a photograph and shared to . " An abandoned car I stumbled across in the woods whilst looking for mushrooms," the man penned in the CasualUK subreddit.

He quipped: "I did look inside to see if there was the remains of a corpse but alas, not this time." The post showed the blue vehicle, which was upside down, rusting and overgrown with shrubs.

It prompted others to speculate how it got there – and deliberate over the model of car too. "Enjoy your trip?" joked one Reddit user in response, suggesting the man had been in search of fungi with properties.

"It was a nice walk in the woods," he replied. "Didn’t find anything though, and the was a bit on and off. A few inedible ones but that was about it."

Pleading his innocence, the man continued: "I wasn’t looking for that type of mushroom. I’m interested in ones you can actually eat. Also not to be that guy but you realise that is the only fungus species that is illegal to intentionally pick in the UK, right?"

"Remember when joyriding was huge?" a second person recalled in response. "Swear you used to see burnt out or smashed up cars in fields, woods, parks, all sorts of places in the 90s."

A third person joked that the car resembled that used by and Ron Weasley, penning: "Looks like Harry and Weasley crash landed. It's Arthur Weasley's car. Rust in peace."

Meanwhile, a fourth managed to spot the car in question was in fact a Ford Fiesta. "MK2 Ford Fiesta Popular" they said. "Looks to be an early one too." That resulted in someone else mocking up an advert for the car: MK2 FIESTA! RARE CLASSIC!

"Barn find Fiesta Popular Plus, 1.1 petrol, no keys, no v5, 4 good tyres, will need to be trailered as breaks stuck on. Ideal project car. Doesn't need much work to get it back on road. No time wasters this is a genuine classic car, not too many these left now! £9,500 ONO."

We'd always urge caution when it comes to wandering about in the woods – especially if you're foraging. Just , a man found some of the world's "most deadly" mushrooms growing in the UK.
